History:

The Cedarville Marksmanship Club was born when four friends got together to share their common passion for the shooting sports. We are in our 5th year of education, recreation and competition in the shooting sports, with more than 40 members.  We are currently members of both the National Rifle Association (NRA – Club #B87283) and the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).

Mission:

The mission of the organization known as the Cedarville Marksmanship Club is to promote safe and educated gun use among interested members of the Cedarville community; to provide an opportunity for improved marksmanship through practice and intra-organizational competition; provide the opportunity for evangelism and discipleship through the common interest in firearms and marksmanship; and provide firearms related opportunities to individuals in the surrounding communities.

The club started with the premise that educating people, whether they are current or prospective gun owners in all of the various elements of gun ownership and proper use of firearms.  The club focuses on three aspects: education, recreation and competition.

Education: The educating process begins with “Brown Bag Lunch Seminars” where, during a lunch hour, special speakers provide basic, relevant information about guns, gun selection, proper use and storage.  The education process continues with:

  • Introductory classes
  • Concealed Handgun License classes
  • Range and target training
  • Women’s programs
  • NRA training and certification

The Marksmanship Club schedules two range nights each month year round.  During the winter months the club shoots at a local range, while in the spring and summer the club shoots outdoors in the Village of Cedarville.

Recreation: The club sponsors specialty nights where members can experience shooting guns they may not own or be familiar with.  Members can shoot for enjoyment or they can work their way through the NRA marksmanship program.  The club has NRA certified instructors who can oversee members’ progress through the program.  The club has begun implementing “move and shoot” programs in its shooting itinerary

Competition:  Cedarville Marksmanship Club looks to promote both intra-club and inter-club competition. The club is implementing “move and shoot” programs to the shooting itinerary.  The club is working to promote the NRA target and “Steel Challenge” competitions.
